Doctors Day is celebrated around the world to recognise the invaluable contributions of doctors to individual lives and communities. Doctors play a vital role in our society and deserve our gratitude and respect. They provide us with care when we are sick and help us stay healthy.

Moreover, doctors also play a vital role in research and development, and their work has led to the development of new treatments and cures for diseases. In addition to individual expressions of gratitude, healthcare organisations often celebrate National Doctors Day by organising lunches, surprising doctors with gifts, or hosting other special events for them.

Did you know? While Doctors Day is celebrated all over the world, different countries celebrate it on different dates. National Doctors Day in India is celebrated on the 1st of July every year. It is celebrated by the United States on the 30th of March. In Kuwait, it is also celebrated in the month of March, but on the 3rd, and in Nepal, on the 4th. Brazil celebrates it on the 18th of October, and Canada celebrates National Doctors Day on the 1st of May.

In Cuba, Doctors Day is celebrated on the 3rd of December as it is the birthday of Carlos Juan Finlay. He was a physician and epidemiologist of Cuban origin who was the first to discover the transmission vector of yellow fever. Finlay’s discovery was a major breakthrough in the fight against yellow fever, and it helped to save countless lives.

Finlay’s discovery led to the development of effective methods for preventing and controlling yellow fever. As a result, the disease, which had once been a major threat to public health, is now much less common.

In recognition of Finlay’s contributions to medicine, the Cuban government celebrates National Doctors Day on his birthday. On this day, Cubans celebrate the work of all doctors, and they pay tribute to Finlay’s legacy.

When is Doctors Day Celebrated In India?

As mentioned above, National Doctors Day is celebrated in India on the 1st of July. National Doctors Day in India was first observed on the 1st of July 1991 to honour Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician. He was also the second Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal. The 1st of July is both his birth and death anniversary.

Dr. Roy was a pioneer in the field of medicine and made significant contributions to the public health system in India. He was also a social reformer and a champion of women’s rights.

Did you know? Dr. Roy was also the personal physician of Mahatma Gandhi. He treated countless patients and inspired millions with his compassion and dedication.

Significance Of Doctors Day & The Role Of Doctors In Our Lives

National Doctors Day is a day to appreciate and recognise the importance of doctors in our society. Doctors play a significant role in our well-being and deserve our gratitude and respect.

On this Doctors Day, we should take a moment to thank our doctors for their hard work and dedication. We should also be grateful for their contributions. Doctors have been at the forefront when it comes to developing cures and treatments for life-threatening diseases and have risked their lives to treat their patients during small and large-scale medical emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic, staying away from their families, sometimes for days on end.

How Can You Make Doctors Day Special For Our Heroes?

There are many ways in which you can make National Doctors Day special for doctors. Here are a few –

1). Send them a red carnation

The red carnation is a symbol of Doctors Day, and it is a simple way to show your appreciation. You can give your doctor a single red carnation to wear, or you can send them a bouquet of carnations. The flower represents love, charity, bravery and sacrifice.

2). Invite their patients to write Happy Doctors Day notes for them and decorate their clinic or office with them

You could keep a supply of notecards on hand, and whenever patients come to the clinic or the hospital, hand them out to them and ask them to write their Happy Doctors Day messages on them. A day before Doctors Day, you could stick these notes on one of the walls of the doctor’s clinic or office. This will surely brighten their day!

3). Send them a greeting card with a heartfelt message

While we are living in the digital age, greeting cards are something one can touch and keep for years. What makes them extra special is the fact that a patient picks a card of their choice and the ability to write a personalised message on them, which all takes effort. The personal touch that greeting cards have makes them more special!

Patients could write personalised Happy Doctors Day messages inside the greeting cards, sharing specific details about how their doctor has helped them and how their care has made a difference in their lives. Adding a few meaningful Happy Doctors Day quotes along with their Doctors Day wishes will make it even more special for the doctor!

4). Send them some sweet treats or baked goods

You could also wish your doctor Happy National Doctors Day by sending them a box of mithai or baked goods like cookies or cupcakes. After all, who doesn’t love a delicious sweet treat?

Ensure you attach a handwritten note with a personalised Happy Doctors Day message for your doctor, thanking them for their selfless service.

5). Create a video for your doctors

Another way to show appreciation for your doctors is to create a video thanking them for their service. This could be shot on your smartphone, or you could get more creative and have your staff members record personalised messages for your doctors. This is a fun and easy way to get everyone involved, and it’s sure to make your doctors feel special.

You could even post the video on your practice’s YouTube channel or social media pages so that other people can see it and wish them a Happy Doctors Day.

6). Send them a personalised gift

You could get a pen engraved with your doctor’s name, a custom bobblehead, a succulent plant, or even a door sign. This is a thoughtful and unique way to show your gratitude for your doctor’s hard work.

Conclusion

Taking care of your health is as important as seeking treatment from a good doctor. However, healthcare is expensive and medical emergencies come unannounced. This National Doctors Day, besides wishing your doctors Happy Doctors Day and going above and beyond to make the day special for them, consider helping someone in need undergo medical treatment by supporting their fundraiser on Ketto.

When you donate to a fundraiser, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of people who are facing financial hardship due to medical bills. Your donation could help to pay for surgery, a course of chemotherapy, or other essential medical treatments.
